Day Six, 29/09.

I stayed home on a Saturday night and did some work.

I completed the textures for the drawers.

I also completed the textures for the books.

I actually got a comment on one of my posts and it was from Darren!! He had said that it would be good to add in the extra books and things on the walls. So I didn't over do it with the adding of more books, just enough so it doesn't look to organised.

So a bit more books on top of the drawers and a bit more on the floor. I need to actually fix the ones on the floor as they look still too neat. So I will fix that later on.

I have also started to make some frame thingys for the walls. Not too sure if i like them, might need to test some more. I think it is the thickness of them.

And finally! I have been testing the textures for the books on the desk... not too sure if everyone knows but i am putting that the books were written by my fellow classmates. So i was testing the way it looks and Nils' book was the first one.

Still have some tweaking to do but you get the idea of how i want it to look.
I have work all day tomorrow and I am usually really tired when i get home so i don't know if I will be getting  any work done. I shall try.

Day Five, 28/09.

After work i was really tired so I didn't get any of the work done that i wanted to do. I had it set in mind that i would wake up early the nest day to get it finished.
Unfortunately, I was really sick on Friday and I tried to get some work done but i couldn't handle it.

I only combined the separate objects for the door and wall together. So now they are two objects not 30 pieces.
It was really annoying as i have lost a whole day where i could of had more things complete.
Things happen for a reason....mehh.

Day Four, 27/09.

I was a little lazy today.

I decided that i didn't want to add extra books into the study room, i think i was just tired last night when i thought i wanted more. BUT if anyone would like to give me feedback if the books i have now are okay or if i should add more. Anyway...

I finished off the textures for the equipment, i also fixed up the walls and floor and changed the colour balance so that they look darker then everything else. I will also need to work on the colour balance for the other textures.

I also did a test with adding a light to the scene.

Its a big too dark, but i like the feeling of it. For NEW DOOR last year, Jack had added a shadow effect over the objects in Alice's room. I'm not too sure how he did it but i will find out and test it on the study room.

I also worked on the textures of the drawers.

It's not finished yet but i will get it done in a flash. Because in Maya the keyboard 'G' is my friend. I just have to assign textures for the labels and handles.

I have work now so maybe after work i will continue to finish off the drawers and maybe start on the books.
I am aiming to complete:
- All textures for drawers and books.
by tonight/tomorrow morning.

The last of the modelling i need to do is: If i need to add more books around the place and I need to make a book for Edgar to write in and the book that has a page turn and closes. I know that i will have some issues making the last book but i will search around.

ohh yeah i also have to remember to combined all the objects together as they are all separate from doing the UV layouts..

Day Three, 26/09.

I was busy all day today and so i didn't really get much work done. After getting home and having some dinner I decided to try and get something done. So I finished off the wall and door textures! YAY!!

I also said yesterday that i wanted to find a texture for my walls and floor and i found one! YAY!

This is what the room looks like now. I have a lot of texture adding to do.

I also took a screen shot of one of my shots where you pretty much see the whole room. So I made some notes of areas that need to be filled.

This is all i got done in the little time i had today. Tomorrow i will try and get more work done before i go to work.

Day Two, 25/09.

Today I continued working on my textures for my UV's. The last few textures that i need to do are:
- Books
- Drawers
- Equipment
-wall/floor and door.

I also found a few other textures that i liked so that now not all the objects are using the same texture.

I also added in a few extra books around the area. This is because the area still looked too empty and not complete. Before the holidays Rosalie had suggested to me that i should add in a few more books on the floor and on top of the drawers.

I was thinking for the walls and floor that i would find a really simple sepia toned texture which has a darker tone around the edges. I had tested the teabag texture on the floor and walls and i didn't like it at all! However for the shot when Edgar opens the door to go outside the textures for the wall and door will be teabag.

Unfortunately tomorrow i might not actually get any work done! I will try however get something done even though it will only be a little bit BUT it is still something. I could have completed my textures and all my 3D modelling :( That would of been two Milestones done. blahhhhhh

Day One, 24/09.

Already it has hit the 2 week holidays. I hate you time.

Anyway on Friday, Saturday and Sunday I was sick and lost three days of work, which is really annoying. But I also needed a break so I decided that once it hit Monday I would start working to get things done.

In the morning I set up my tea and brushes and started working on the textures for my 3D objects. I made two of them and then it took forever for them just to dry and I felt that i was wasting time.
Before the holidays Sean gave me an idea to make one big texture and then cut the UV's into it. So i decided to test it! It does take some time as i need to change the textures around and cut into them. I also have to make a few different copies for the same item, such as the books.

This is the texture that i am using. I am going to make a few more so that i don't get repeating patterns.

I first worked on the chair. I like the way it turned out.

I then added textures to the drawers. I don't know if you can notice but the actual body of the drawers is a bit blurry. The smaller objects can handle the textures a lot better. The Drawers will take some time to finish as there are so many to apply the textures too.

I then worked on the light. The top is still gray because that will be transparent.

So a lot of today was taken up by cutting up UV's and then applying them to the object to make sure that it looks good. I still have heaps to do and tomorrow i am going to continue working on the UV's. Hopefully i can get them complete.

2D city shot.

In Darren's class I worked on my city shot. Jack had told me on Tuesday that i needed to have some powerpoles in the foreground. I was working on it and really liked the look but then Darren pointed out that you might not actually see the foreground powerpoles when Edgar opens the door.

So Darren placed the image into After Effects and cut the ground to give it depth. He then made a solid to symbol the door and used the Z depth to move the camera forward.

I know that the ground moves oddly, this is just a test to see what it looks like.

So I decided to add in lines that are coming over and go towards the city.

I need to start working on my side view soon!! Anyway it would be really good to get some feedback.

To do list Tuesday.

I got feedback from Jack for my city shot and he said that i needed some more powerpoles in the foreground and wires that face towards the city. This is so I have something leading the viewers eye towards what i want them to look at. He also showed me pictures of Indian power lines, they are crazy!

He also showed me how to make a master camera and I set up a few of the shots in there. I just need to finish off the rest. I also got help with the equipment UV's. I was having a few problems trying to get a layout of the UV's but Jack said that they were already done! Which is good so I now need to save the UV's and print them out. I will try and get them done tonight so i can print them at Uni on Thursday.

Jack wanted me to test that the teabag look i want for my objects works. So I added a texture to the objects.

They all look the same only because I had one texture to use, they are also too bright.
What i did last year was change the brightness and contrast of each texture so that they all looked different, I will be doing it for the study room as well.

Seanpatrickjoymundy gave me a newspaper turn file for Maya. I will need to check it out to make sure it is what I want to use.
I also made a 2 weeks holiday date plan so I can organise what to do for each day. Andddd I also have my week 10 milestones stuck under it so i make sure to finish everything off!!!!

100th post.

Like totes OMG LOL my 100th post... ehh i'm tireddd.

I had a few things i needed to work on with my showreel and got them done. I then decided to work on my city shot and I fixed up the ground and added in another layer of powerpole/lines. It is super annoying adding in powerlines!!

Before:

After:

It looks really messy! I like it. I think it is complete! i feel that something is missing and i will show everyone tomorrow and get some feedback.
I will also need to work on the side view... that is going to be annoying.. mehhhhhhhh

I made a list of things i want to work on tomorrow. I hope i get lots of stuff done! I need sleep now, goodnight.

finished drawer uv's.

On Thursday I got all the UV's completed on the drawer. It took me a while to finish because I was exporting and importing between Maya and Zbrush. I also had to assign the same UV's to the matching objects and there were a lot of small drawers.

After that I worked on the ground of my City shot. Its slowly coming along, I need to just wrap it up and finish it off as i also need to create a side view.
Darren had spoken to me before about doing a library piece for the background. This is for when we see Edgar face on and there is space behind him. I originally wanted to do a single blurred colour just so you focus more on Edgar then anything else. But Darren had an idea and I gave him a render of the shot.

This is what he did. He had said in the email that the dust is actually a snow thing in After Effects. I really like the framing and light in the background. I just hope i can get the rest of my animation looking nice like this.

Over the weekend i didn't get to work on my animation as I had life/family things take over my time. I also tried working on an essay and i worked on my showreel for promotion class.

working on drawers&city.

On Tuesday after uni i ended up working on my Promotion work that needed to be seen today (wednesday) so i didnt do much work on my animation. I did however organise a list of things that i want done so I want to get them complete.

Today I went into uni early and worked on the Edge Looping of the Drawer set that Jack helped me with. Tomorrow in Darren's class I am going to export each object and import them into ZBrush. I will also print them off too. I would do it now but I am tired and i havent been feeling to good today...

I also worked on the City shot, I am trying to orgamise the powerlines, it's ball breaking.

It looks nice and messy, still have heaps to do so I will also work on this in Darren's class. Oh yeah Darren if you read this i would like to know how you did the ground for Jarrod's Hell picture? I really like it and i would like to try something simular for this shot ^^^

The first drawer is smoothed, so is the base of it.

I am going to duplicate two more of these drawers and place them on the side, so it looks like a whole row. I am also going to have a few of the drawers half open.

In the middle are three longer drawers. I am going to have the hourglass in this one.

Ask Jarrod to do his teacher, Jesus voice. Its so funny, I love hearing it. hahahahahahah

tuesday is happy day.

First off on Sunday I made sure that I had all my UVs done and ready in Photoshop to be printed on Monday. I also assigned the same attributes to each object, so now they all match and all i need to do is put the texture on them.

On Monday, I can't remember why but I was talking to Seanpatrickjoymundy and he showed me a better way to have a good copy of my UVs with having to make a Lightbox copy. So he magic wand the picture and then inverted the selection, then made a new layer. After this he right clicked on the picture and selected stroke. He then got rid of the bottom layer and then there was only the outline left. So I quickly rushed and did this process for all the UVs I had and then i finally printed them all!

When we were in Rosalie's class we did a activity were we picked a shot that was weak and made changes to it, it was a class discussion. I picked the LS of the study room when Edgar stands up and walks to the drawers. Everyone decided that i needed more books around and things on the wall, I agreed too! so i will be working on making these changes. ALSOOOOOO I got a comment on one of my posts by Darren!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He said that i should make a massive stack of books and place them behind Edgar. I originally wanted to do a simple colour blurred behind him, but this idea is a lot better and it shows depth!!!!

So today in JACK'S class I had to print off the last of some UV's that i had problems with, there all good now. I also set up scene 2 and scene 3 cameras. Edgar still doesnt work right so i havent done any animating yet. Jack said that i needed to make a Dropbox account so i could send him the file. I set it all up but I have emailed jack because i dont know what email he has used so he can get the file. I also put my running comp in its own page at the top of my blog, it is now easy to get too.
Magical Jack also helped me with the graph editor in Maya and just learning the basics of using it with fixing up the cameras. He also helped me with creating the drawer! it looks super good! I finished off the last of it by duplicating it and placing in handles. All I need to do now is add in some Edge Loop's A LOT of them too! so the shape can hold.
Week 10 Milestones were also talked about I will post my list up tomorrow as i really want to work on my animation now :)

WEEK 8, COME AT ME BROOOOOOOOO

learning ZBrush.

Once I finished off the itmes in the room i wanted to start working on the UV's. Jack had said at the starting of when Bounnong wanted to use ZBrush that there is a UV plugin that does the work for you. So on Thursday Bounnong showed me the basics of what i needed to know so i could do some UV work.

I exported the object from Maya as a .obj then imported it into ZBrush. After that I went into the UV Master and flatted the model so that i could get the UV layout. After that was done I exported the file as a .obj and then imported it back into Maya.

This picture shows the ZBrush import which is highlighted and the UVs of that object in the UV Texture Editor. This was just a test to make sure it worked.

On Friday i exported everything that i could UV out of Maya and then imported them into ZBrush. This took some time but i finished them off on Friday. Now i need to import them back into Maya, get a UV snapshot and then print them out so i can paint them with a teabag.

The problem that i had was the equipment I got from Creative Crash. I tried to do UVs on them but it didn't work. So i will need to try again and see what I can do.

SOOOO the only thing that has to be UVed is the Equipment, Drawers, wall and floor.

placing things.

On Thursday I continued placing more items around the room and got it finished.

I also placed in two clocks and the wall light. Now the three shelfs are complete.
I also decided to get rid of the piled paper and change them for books. The paper looked crap and I didn't like them.  Placed equipment on desk.

I added in two more drawers. These are not complete, when i smooth these drawers they look horrible and I need to fix them. But the room looks a lot better with a whole wall of drawers.

Finally!! I placed books on the floor. Both sides of Edgar's desk and now I am happy with it.

equipment.

On Wednesday I went into uni early s i could get some work done. Seanmundy was there too! I wanted to fill the study room up with different types of equipment and more books.

In semester one Jack told me about a website called Creative Crash. You can download free Plugins/scripts to use in Maya. So i had a look at gears, cogs, tools and bolts and found some really good ones. I downloaded a whole bunch at uni and Sean helped me with setting them up. When i got home i set up all the scripts and started to play around with them.

I placed a few things around the study room however there were a few items that i had to group to itself so that i could move them around. I wanted to finish off placing the items but it was the night when we had the really bad windy weather. Lucky i had stopped early because the power went out.

tuesday is crying day.

No, its not really crying day.
Jack said that i really need to start animating. I had a bit of a blank and well a mental attack and felt so down and I didn't want to animate my character in 3D. I don't like animating in 3D but i really enjoy animating in 2D. I decided that i wanted to change my character to 2D animating. But I am keeping it 3D. I had a chat with Jack and Bounnong and they helped me through the problem of not wanting it to be 3D.

I do enjoy modeling and creating objects in 3D but i really don't like character animating. I decided to do my character in 3D because the future of work is based on this medium. So i want to learn and get over the fact that i hate it.

Edgar has some problems with his movement and the coat that he wears. Jack added in an influence in his arm but when you move the arm a few things move around with it and thats not suppost to happen. So Jack showed me the Component Editor and i had to delete anything that was not suppost to be there.
It still needs some work and i did work on it at home but a few problems came up where i didnt know what i was suppost to delete.

So i just need to hurry up and get work done!!!!!!
Bounnong believes in me.

wall light.

I got an email back from Jack and he fixed the problem :D YAY!! I am going to talk to him tomorrow about it so i understand what the hell i did wrong. This weekend has been a bit crazy for me so I didn't get much work done. I did start making a Wall Light of Friday night and continued working on it on Saturday. Today in Neale's class i continued working on it and the light is not complete.

I just need to smooth each section and combined it together. I will do that tomorrow in class.

I am going to try and get all the modelling done for the room as soon as i can! I need to also get the UV's done...
