top shelve of books.

Also in Darrens class i worked on putting books on the top shelve. All i did was make copies of the ones on the desk and just placed them at random on the shelve.

I will be making other random objects and place them on the shelves as well.

On the friday i worked on the 3rd newspaper and finished it off.
This is the picture i referenced and got inpiration from.

This picture is what i came up with. 

It took me a bit of time as im not very good with perspective drawing. I have many books at home and read what i thought would help me out. For the birds i drew three different ones and the used the warp tool to change a few of the birds around, just so it didnt look all the same and repedative.

The rocks i got referencing from a rock brush. i then added my own colours on top of it and worked it the way i wanted it to be. For the building in the background i got a machine brush and organised where i wanted them all to go, there was about three i liked in total and i edited and erased bits of it and then added in the wires between the buildings. I also added a brown colour behind the building.  

I have two more newspapers to draw up and then i need to sepia tine them and add writing to the newspapers. then scene one will be complete.

Last week i worked on making a pen and a ink jar for my study room.
I did get help from Jack with the top of the pen and i made a ink jar in Darrens class.

I made the ink jar twice because the first time i was having a few problems and it didnt turn out the way I wanted it to be. Then i did it again and this time I did it differently to the first time.

3rd day back.

It is already day three of being back at Uni.
It's really good to be back, i feel more motivated to get work done.
Yesterday we had Jack for the whole day and we mostly worked on our production.
During the holidays i was working on some piled paper, I set up the size and thickness of how i wanted them and made copied of the one. I then realised that i didn't smooth the first piece of paper i made and i didn't add any edge loops. So i decided to start again.

This time i made one piece of paper to my liking and then made copies of it and piled and moved them around to look a little messy. I am going to have a few stacks of paper around Edgar's work area.

I completed the papers and then continued on making a pen for Edgar to use. I made the base of the pen and had a bit of a problem as it looked really flat, i wanted it to be more round. Jack showed me how to not make it flat by selecting the whole edge of the shape and then scale it bigger. 

Jack also showed me how to make the tip of the pen. I tried so many times to make it but failed. it was done by making a circle and cutting off three points so that it made a cresent shape. Then a copy was made and placed a few spaces on top of it. Then the area of the space was filled and the top was made into a point. The spade in the middle of the pen was made by making the shape of it and the projecting the shape onto the object. This made it follow the curve and cut the shape into the pen.

Jack also showed me a few tricks in Photoshop and on how to create a Matte Painting. I learnt how to use the Vanishing point tool and perspective. Also a better way to use the clone stamp tool. 

It was a really productive day however i started to get really sore eyes. Once i got home and started working again on my computer, my eyes started to get more sore and had to stop. So i didnt get anything more done at home as i would have liked. 

I need to take more breaks away from the computer to give my eyes a rest.

Yesterday after i finished off the first newspaper i started working on the next one which is trees on fire. I only did a rough sketch out of what i wanted the picture to look like. I got really tired and decided to work more on it the next day.

So today i kinda finished it off, not 100% but its good enough for now.
I got my inspiration from this picture:

When i was looking for some reference pictures i came across this one and thats what made me decided to change the newspapers. 

This is the finished picture. It took me a long time and I will soon put up the different layers of steps i did. I have work soon so I have run out of time.

I have never done fire/flames before so i tried my best with what i know. The trees that are in the fire are actually Tree brushes which i cut up and placed everywhere. Also that is suppost to be Edgar at the front with his head in hands. I dont know if i like it that much, i might change it up a bit. But for now this is what i did today.

Oh yeah and i saved the picture with the colour palette i used.

After getting the email from Jack i started working on my first scene which is the newspapers dissolving between each other.
For my storyboards i had that there are 5 newspapers in total. I was thinking about it and decided to cut it down to 4 and change two of the newspapers.
The original papers were:
1. Last forest removed for more space.
2. Trees cut down, protesters fight back.
3. Mayor signs, last tree cut down.
4. Death of birds increase, soon extinct.
5. Construction continues to grow.

The new papers are:
1. Last forest removed for more space.
2. Death in fire for trees.
3. Death of birds increase, soon extinct.
4. Construction continues to grow.

I changed the papers because i thought it dragged a little and i wanted burning trees in a pile and to have Edgar on his knees next to it.

Today i have been working for hours on this newspaper which is the forest picture. I got my inspiration from this picture:

I used it mostly as a guide for how i want my forest to look. So i started out by:

Outlining where i wanted the trees to be.



 Then using a base colour for the trees and coloured them in.



I then picked a light, middle and dark green for the floor and used the blend tool to mix them together.

I then used the leaf brush and picked a few light colours and placed them all around the back.

I then had a darker green in the background, used a mid green in the midground and then used a lighter green in the foreground.I left small gaps so you can still see a bit of the pink colour from behind.

I added some pinky colours to the foreground, just infront of the trees.

I then put a bit of yellow in the midground and used the yellow and pink for the dropped leaves on the ground.

the background seemed a bit too light so i added a darker green and a bit of a darker pink in the foreground.

Then the finishing touches were getting a few different colours of brown and adding some texture to the trees, i then added some light rays and a few small rocks around.

I checked to see what it will look like on the paper and i like it.

I then made up some story about the trees, and im sorry if i have spelling mistakes!! but this isnt the final piece!! I also know that newspapers are not in colour, so i will need to gray scale the picture, or maybe sepia tone it down.

Thought i might as well put up my colour palette so you can see the colour blends i used.

The newspaper still needs work, but i want to finish off the pictures first then ill write up everything else.

The holidays are almost over and i'm not very happy with myself with the amount of work i have done. I was hoping i would get more finished. This is manily because i was going through a lack of motivation and just felt like i couldnt work properly or get motivated enough to get something done.

I have been going into uni and i have done a bit more 3D work but not too happy with it so i need to fix it up.

Anyway i got an email from Jack saying that Edgar is modelled and he looks amazing!! Jack sent me two pictures of him and they look really good! The only thing i thought about was the colour of the clothes that Jack put. But as i was thinking about it i realised that the colours i had in mind may be too much like the background that i want. So when i go back to uni I will experiment with colours and see how i go.

Im slowly getting my motivation back and yesterday I had a really good talk with Darren at uni about staying motivated and to have a different mind set when it comes to work. It helped a lot and I should be okay.

These are the pictures Jack sent me. He also did the Matte painting for it and the painting looks amazingly beautiful! I love it sooo much!

I really appreciate that Jack has done this for me.
Now i got to work harder!!!!

i made books.

Today I worked on making some different size books.
I had to start again because the first book i made looked horrible and I just didnt think properly about the look of the book. So i started again and made sure to put in extra edge loops were i needed them.

I added in some bends to the edges of the book and tried making a rounded spine.

I duplicated the book and made three different sizes that i will use to put around the room.

I piled them on the table and changed the width of two of the books. So one is thinner and the other is thicker.

                           

I tried really hard to make an open book. I searched the web looking for tutorials on how to make it but i couldnt find any. So I just tried myself and it took me a bit of time.

I spent a lot of time trying to find things on the net, i get a few bits and pieces of help, but not much.

I placed the books on top of each other to see what it looks like.

I need to try and make another open book and place a few more around the place.

Last week i did try and work on making the drawers in the study room and i was having a lot of trouble with it. Im hoping i can find tutorial on how to model it, or i will try and give it another go.
